Oh my gosh, what a great insight! Einstein said that we can't solve a problem at the same level of thinking at which we arrived at it.

An essential awareness is how our attitudes and beliefs about "mistake making" impacts our behavior...and in this case the willingness to be open when something doesn't work, constructively managing our ego reaction, and our soliciting help to support and activate our solution development mode.

As a corporate trainer and management performance coach who has had exposure to many companies through-out North America across a variety of industry contexts, I've heard so many stories of cultures where this sophisticated thinking does not even exist - in fact where mistakes are berated thereby suppressing any possibility of moral development, let alone neural.

And the sad thing?....the leadership is clueless as to what's happening and don't see the essential value of developing a different culture that will ultimately impact their bottom line in a positive way.

My solution to this is for those who are more aware...continue to write, speak, and teach ....spread the word, provoke thought, challenge flat thinking, and continue to be fully committed to developing our own potential.

I like this post. The longer I live the more I believe that we only really learn from "failure". I would also say that there is a big difference between the two thoughts "I feel like a failure" and "I am a failure" and often we mess ourselves up by using the latter when what is truer is the former. I wrote a post a month ago on 17 habits for a fulfilling life - and I believe it is only by passing through a humbling (or humiliating for ego) experience that we become capable of living the life we really need to lead. The original post is here http://www.conorneill.com/2009/10/17-daily-personal-habits-for-fulfilling.html
