“The World Sends Us Garbage. We Send Back Music.”

You should watch this short clip — not because it’s an remarkable story (which it is) or because it will make your eyes well up (which it might), but because it’s a good reminder of two basic facts we tend to overlook:

1) Respecting and caring for the tools of your skill — what some educators call “the enchantment of everyday objects” — ignites powerful motivation

2) Talent is everywhere

  1. Hi Dan

Great clip and one every coach and teacher should see and shows what a bit of imagination and opening your eyes to what’s around you can do and if talent is everywhere, and it is, then there must be 2 things holding it back from it coming forth and developing, they must be:

They way we’re coaching and mindset

It can’t be anything else, for both have a big effect on talent development.

    Hi Dan,

This is a truly beautiful thing. Thanks for sharing. We take so much for granted and complain about small things that bother us. The folks in the clip don’t have much in the way of material wealth but they have tons of heart. And now they have music as well.

Great job Dan ! Garbage we hide it because we don’t want to see it. Maybe it makes us feel bad and uncomfortable. Here in Ottawa, Canada, our family recycles as much as we can. If only we could find a way to recycle those darn plastic bag. Thank you for your great books and ideas. – Pierre

I love this clip. It reminds me of one of the commonalities you noticed about the talent hotbeds. They almost never have the coolest, sleekest, most modern equipment or facilities. They are stripped down to the essentials, in this case, the music and the musician.

The love, the care, the imagination to take trash and create beauty, it is so inspiring.
